Medidor de ondas estacionarias ROE / SWR meter ------- English scroll down

Repita itens 1, 2, 3, 4 e 5.

SWR meter
We build several SWR meters with and without toroides until we build this circuit, simple and easy to assemble and it WORKS!!
Schematic
The secret of this meter is the sensor, assembled in three ways:
A. Using a 5-way flat cable, with 3 central united to drive the RF and the two sides to coupling line Inductive / capacitive.
B. With flat cable wound on a form of 10mm diameter (3 turns) to increase the meter sensitivity and to measure QRPp.
C. In a copper board we made islands, as it can be seen in the photos. This circuit is for who want to measure up to VHF.
The sensitivity can be improved by replacing the diodes 1N4148 for germanium diodes, type 1N60 for example or for instance BAT45 schottky diodes.
The meter (Micramperimeter) used was 150µA, other values up to 500µA can be used. Can also be used an external meter (multimeter), in this case, a table can be printed for easy reading.
Where VI = forward voltage and VR = Reflected Voltage
The Reference Value calculation
reference value = (Forward Voltage + Reflected Voltage ) / (Forward Voltage - Reflected Voltage)
The measured SWR is being written as "Reference Value" : 1

Calibrating
To calibrate we need a TX of circa 5 W and some metalfime resistors .
The ideal frequency to calibrate, is initially in a low band (80 or 40m), after calibration in these bands repeat the calibration at higher frequency, in which the meter will be employed. After calibration in the high band, the lower bands are automatically calibrated.
Initially we put a 50 ohms load in the output, with sufficient dissipation power (for transmitter).
1. With the switch, at position Forward Voltage VI (coming from diode - TX side) we power on the TX, and we regulate the potentiometer until the meter shows 100% scale.
2. Change the switch to position reflected voltage VR and read the meter : it must be zero, adjust the trimmer side antenna util it starts the measurement, re-adjust zero then. Repeat these two items until the two match 100% reading and zero respectively.
Put a load of 100 ohms (2:1 swr), repeat the 1st item, then go to item 3.
3. Change the key to the position reflected voltage VR and and read the meter : it should be 33% of full scale. Whether the measure is right then go to 4 or if you have any further error, correct in the trimmer (antenna side) until reach the 33% range. Repeat these two items until the both match 100% and zero respectively. Repeat items 1, 2 and 3..
4. Put a load of 150 Oms (SWR 3:1), repeat item 1, then go to item 5.
5. Change the key to the position reflected voltage VR and read the meter : it should be 50% of full scale. Whether the measure is right terminate the tests or if you have any further error, correct in the trimmer until reach the 50% range. Repeat these two items until the both match 100% and zero respectively. Repeat items 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
